If you are a big Spider-Man fan, then you’ve probably been waiting for this week to visit Universal’s Islands of Adventure. The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man will reopen Thursday, March 8, 2012. The Orlando attraction has been closed since February 8 for upgrades. This already amazing experience will feel like an all-new adventure.

Some of the upgrades include:

  •     New 3-D glasses to help catch details that guests could not see before.
  •     An upgraded audio system in the ride vehicles for better sound quality.
  •     A new musical score.
  •     A cameo by Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee (computer-generated version).

The plot of Spider-Man being pitted against an array of super villains remains the same as it has since the 3-D ride opened with Islands of Adventure in 1999, but the new high-definition animation will reveal details never seen by guests before. The Orlando attraction has fresh paint to go along with all of the technical upgrades as well.

The reopening of the Spider-Man attraction is the first of several enhancements and additions Universal Orlando has planned this year. A daily parade (“Universal’s Superstar Parade”), a nighttime movie-based show (“Universal’s Cinematic Spectacular”) and an attraction called Despicable Me Minion Mayhem are all in the works. A new SpongeBob store is set to open this year. The former Jaws attraction and the surrounding Amity area are also under construction where it is anticipated an expansion of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter will be built. At CityWalk work continues on a unique 36-hole miniature golf experience inspired by the classic drive-in movie era.

There are a lot of new reasons to visit Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure this year. Luckily for the Spider-Man fans, this weekend will be a great time to visit the Orlando theme park. The lines are sure to be long for this newly reopened ride, however, it should be worth the wait. For more information, visit universalorlando.com.
