This article was first published in 2014. Since then, the Funky Monkey Wine Company [a.k.a. Bistro & Bar], where the Divas performed on International Drive, has closed. Mills Brewpub as also closed. It is unclear whether the Divas will find a new home at the time of this update. (See Hamburger Mary’s information below.)

Orlando Dinner Show featuring Drag Queens

Formerly known as Bananas, this drag queen show returns at it’s original location. Photo by George Skene.

The drag queen dinner revue theater is back at 924 N. Mills Avenue in Orlando. Some of you may also know it as the former Bananas – A Modern American Diner. Bananas was around for about four years, when it changed names to Mills Brewpub a Belgian frites bar. Some also know this Orlando restaurant location simply as Mills 50. Now this restaurant will go by Divas Dinner Theatre. Whatever you call it, you’re in for a treat if you are looking for a top-notch drag show.

For 7 months, the drag queen show moved to the restaurant group’s other concept, Funky Monkey Bistro and Bar on International Drive. The FMI Restaurant Group reopened the space on Mills Avenue with the divas in mind, and has decided to continue the drag show at both locations. The show is unique, edgy and fun. The food is decent too, making this a great alternative when it comes to the long list of dinner shows in the Orlando area.

As a fun alternative, come see a gangster dinner show!

Figuring out the right balance of good food and fun entertainment, the new Divas Dinner Theatre should meet the mark in both areas. Bananas lacked in food quality while the Brewpub did well, however with the divas gone, the entertainment value failed. Owner Eddie Nickell, and chef Ashley Nickell, have made a great decision to merge the best of the two concepts into what should be a winner. With Brass Taps and other restaurants opening nearby, the Divas hope to bring back customers to experience both great food and a great show. Let’s hope they continue to listen and improve the quality of the entire experience. This location has a lot of potential.

The evening dinner shows will be available Thursday through Saturday at 8:00 p.m. (seating begins as early as 7pm). Thursday features Divas Off-Off Broadway Showcase; Friday features the Divas Showcase; Saturday is Divas Las Vegas. On Sunday the all-new reinvented Sunday Gospel Brunch is held at noon (seating at 11am). Be sure to order the Bloody Marys and house-made Chicken and Waffles.

If you want to join in the fun (even try it in drag), stay tuned. In the plans for Wednesday nights is an open mic night where you can be the star. A lite bite/appetizer menu will be available from 7pm to midnight. This will be a popular mid-week night spot for many Orlando parties! Hosted by Danielle Hunter and Roxy Brooks, you’ll not want to miss these divas, along with Susan B. Whitney and Chantel Reshae. Theirs is a dinner show to remember!

Orlando dinner show tickets are not available to see the Divas, however, you are encouraged to book your reservation by calling 407-480-2200.
