Frontera Cocina Restaurant

Disney Springs recently opened the new Frontera Cocina restaurant by Chef Rick Bayless. While there are plenty of Kissimmee restaurants serving Mexican cuisine, this new dining option in Lake Buena Vista offers gourmet Mexican fare. There are traditional items on the menu, but like the new surroundings in the beautiful new Town Center in Disney Springs, be prepared for a contemporary experience.

Frontera Cocina Interior

The restaurant itself has a very contemporary and lively look. There are different sections within this new Lake Buena Vista restaurant. The section with the open kitchen is framed with black and festive warm colors, while the bistro/bar area is highlighted with brighter blue, white and cool gray colors. There are three main dining areas and additional seating outside. Various shades of back-lit tequila bottles line the walls and add to an overall contemporary look.

Interior Frontera Cocina

Chef Rick Bayless has been perfecting his Frontera franchise since 1981 when he opened a restaurant in Chicago. Since then he has opened several award-winning restaurants under various brands. He is best known for winning the “Top Chef Masters” award on television. Moving on to host his own show “Mexico – One Plate at a Time,” Bayless offers unmatched insight into Mexican cuisine.

Frontera Cocina Menu

The menu at Frontera Concina features many dishes that will appeal to many diners. However, there are several dishes that will surprise you. Along with Carne Asada, Carnitas and other traditional Mexican dishes, there are dishes listed on the menu that are not so traditional. How about some Shrimp Mojo de Ajo? Queso Añejo Mashed Potatoes? These are the dishes you’d expect from a gourmet restaurant. Far from ordinary.

For the heat-loving diner, as in spicy, there are dishes that offer a good kick. Habanera peppers are used to provide an authentic experience which is missing in many Kissimmee restaurants that feature Mexican cuisine. If you like it hot, try the Atomic Guacamole. To cool your taste buds, save room for dessert. These dishes too are out of the ordinary.

If you want a quick sample, try the walk-up window. You can order tacos, chips with guacamole and a delicious margarita or cerveza. The small outdoor seating in the patio area is nice and will be a great place for outdoor dining once the summer temperatures subside.

This new Buena Vista restaurant is open Sunday – Wednesday from 11am to 10pm; Thursday – Saturday from 11am to 10:45pm and the bar is open Sunday – Wednesday from 11am to 11pm and Thursday – Saturday from 11am to 1am. Reservations are not mandatory, however, you can make them through the Disney reservation system. For information about Frontera Cocina call 407-560-9197.

If you don’t care for Mexican cuisine, but love Italian and American food (and loads of it), make reservations to visit Capone’s Dinner & Show. It is just a short drive from Lake Buena Vista’s Disney Springs and offers a hilarious show.  This Kissimmee restaurant attraction features a delicious buffet with drinks included. Call 407-397-2378 for more information and to reserve your seats at half price.

Spotlight: Tiffins Restaurant at Animal Kingdom

If you are looking for an excellent Orlando theme park restaurant, the newly opened Tiffins Restaurant is worth checking out.  It is located at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This restaurant offers a way to enjoy an art gallery, learn about far-away lands, share your own travels AND enjoy a wonderful meal. As with all of Disney’s creations, this restaurant has been planned right down to the smallest of details.

Tiffins is an Indian word for a lunchbox used by travelers or a mid-day meal. Fittingly, Tiffins restaurant is open for lunch (11:30am – 3:30pm) as well as dinner (4:00pm – 9:30pm). The 252-seat restaurant provides waterfront views with indoor and outdoor seating. It is located on Discovery Island within Disney’s Animal Kingdom. It is divided into “galleries” or dining rooms that focus on far-away lands. These galleries contain artwork inspired by these lands. Some of the art helped create the Animal Kingdom theme park’s design. All of those details! The galleries include:

  • Asia  featuring the Trek Gallery (74 seats)
  • Africa featuring the Safari Gallery (64 seats)
  • Grand Gallery (114 seats) which pays homage to animal species that the Disney Conservation Fund works to protect.

The menu also has vegetarian choices. Try the Roasted Market Vegetable Curry with Quinoa, Zucchini and Lime Chutney.

While the food selections come from all over the world, the beverage menu focuses on Africa, Asia and South America. Many handcrafted cocktails and beers are offered as well as non-alcoholic beverages. These include lemonades, teas and coffees. The beverage program at Tiffins Restaurant is unique. “…we don’t have another one like it at Disney,” said Master Sommelier Brian Koziol, Food & Beverage Concept and Development director for Disney Parks & Resorts. “The program will focus on environmentality: producers that focus on sustainability, organic wines, and bio-dynamic viticulture.”

The Nomad Lounge

Be sure to check out the Nomad Lounge. Share your travel experiences with others. It is located adjacent to Tiffins Restaurant, nearer the water. Purchase a tag and write about your travel adventures. These tags help support the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund. Answer questions such as “what do you always do when traveling” or “what was your most adventurous moment?” In doing so, you’ll be adding to the interesting stories already being told at this new Disney dining experience. You can even dine on small bites at the Nomad Lounge without a reservation. There are 55 seats inside and 46 seats outside.

Because of all its features, this new signature restaurant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is definitely a must-do restaurant attraction to experience. Reservations to Tiffins Restaurant can be made by calling (407) 939-5277. Or go to Disney’s website for more information.

Disney Springs Town Center Neighborhood

The Disney Springs Town Center Neighborhood is open with several recently added retail stores and new places to eat in Orlando. Nearly two dozen new retail stores are now open with several more on the way. In addition to shopping, seven new specialty dining opportunities are now open, with more opening soon. The entire neighborhood should be complete by the end of 2016.

Town Center is one of four neighborhoods located within Disney Springs. See our complete guide to Disney Springs for information about all of the neighborhoods.

Important to note is the fact that Town Center includes the official Welcome Center for Disney Springs. Here you can get theme park tickets, purchase Cirque du Soleil tickets, make dining and resort reservations, exchange foreign currency and other guest relation services. If you are looking for Disney answers, this is the place to go.

New Places to Eat at Disney Springs Town Center Neighborhood

We are still waiting for the much-anticipated opening of STK Steakhouse. The restaurant has not opened yet, however, you can make a reservation for when it does open. Until then you can get your fill at these new places to eat at Disney Springs. Five of the seven newly opened eateries are located in Disney Springs Town Center Neighborhood. Wetzel’s Pretzel’s and Haagen Dazs ice cream still have venues at Disney Springs, they have be relocated across from Orlando Harley-Davidson on the West Side.

Since we’ve already covered Sprinkles (see this post) and D-Luxe Burger (see this post), let’s take look at the other newly opened places to eat in Orlando at Disney Springs.

Amorette’s Patisserie: A high-end pastry shop. Watch pastry chefs decorate signature cakes and enjoy macarons, pavlova, chocolate-chocolate chunk cookies and Amorette.

The Daily Poutine: This new dining option is a kiosk offering Poutines with four varieties of toppings. Poutine is a Canadian dish, originating in the province of Quebec, made with french fries and cheese curds usually topped with a light brown gravy. This kiosk will offer a classic gravy, Latin variation, Italian option and a French version.

YeSake: At this kiosk you can try a variety of sake, slushes and beer along with pulled pork and other dishes.

B.B. Wolf’s Sausage Co. (Marketplace): Another kiosk which offers artisan sausages created by Disney chefs. Choose from a Reuben, Portuguese, Bavarian, Sweet Hot or Italian Veggie Sausage. Each comes with a delicious combination of toppings.

Morimoto Asia Street Food (Landing Neighborhood): Don’t feel like eating inside? This new walk-up window on the patio offers many popular dishes. Order sushi, donburi rice bowls and bao tacos or other snacks.

Other New Additions to Town Center

Lime Parking GarageMore parking is now available at Disney Springs. In addition to the Orange Garage, the Lime Garage is now open. It is near the new water tower with the Disney Springs logo and provides great access to Disney Springs Town Center Neighborhood and the Marketplace. More parking garages are on the way. The parking area on the east end of the complex will be called Lemon. Three lots just west of the Orange garage will be called Watermelon, Grapefruit and Mango. The lot behind the Cirque du Soleil will be known as Strawberry.

Over the summer expect more retail stores and dining options to open in the Disney Springs Town Center Neighborhood. Retail tenants include many favorites and top-of-the-line merchandise, while others will be one-of-a-kind stores, such as the Trophy Room. A visit to Disney Springs can easily fill an entire day – if you like to shop. It is an experience unlike any other in Central Florida. And there is more to come!

D-Luxe Burger at Disney Springs Town Center

If you crave burgers and milkshakes while visiting our Lake Buena Vista paradise, D-Luxe Burger will soon have your fix. This Disney-owned and operated gourmet burger-and-shake joint opened in May of 2016 in the Town Center section of Disney Springs. The new Orlando restaurant is famous for it delicious gourmet burgers and twisted milkshakes. My mouth is watering.

D-Luxe Burger Menu

No matter what type of burger you enjoy, it appears that D-Luxe Burger will have one for you. Of course they’ll offer a traditional American Classic Cheeseburger with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and a pickle. However, if you are ready to delight your taste buds, venture into some of their not-so-traditional flavor combinations. Here are some to consider when dining at D-Luxe Burger.

D-luxe Burger BBQ Burger

The D-luxe Barbecue Classic Burger ©Disney.

Barbecue Classic Burger is a gourmet beef patty topped with a fried onion ring, smoked Gouda cheese, bacon, lettuce and barbecue sauce.

El Diablo Burger is created from a chorizo-and-signature-blend patty and topped with fried banana peppers, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato and chipotle mayonnaise.

Southern Classic Burger uses a gourmet beef patty featuring pimento cheese, lettuce, bacon and a Southern tradition of fried-green tomato.

The “Cluck” Burger is a ground chicken patty with a garlic herb sauce, avocado, lettuce and tomato.

Veggie Burger uses a non-beef house made patty and Tzatiki, green bean salad, lettuce and tomato.

In addition, no burger is complete without fries and something to wash it down with. At the new D-Luxe Burger your fresh-cut fries will be served with your choice of dipping sauces. Plus, you’ll have plenty of beverage choices.

Not Your Ordinary Milkshakes

Smoked Bourbon Milkshake

The Artisanal Gelato Shakes feature many different flavors including Vanilla, Chocolate, Raspberry, Strawberry, Salted Caramel, S’mores and Cake. Other floats available are Root Beer, Cherry Coke and orange. Additionally, sodas will be offered and beverages that adults will enjoy, such as draft beer, cider and “shakes with spirits.” The flavors include Smoked Bourbon and Beer (with a slice of crispy bacon as a garnish) and an alcohol shake made with Godiva Raspberry.

D-Luxe Burger Red Velvet Macaron

Burger Desserts?

What’s in store for dessert? Also keeping with the burger theme, D-Luxe Burger will be offering a Red Velvet Burger Macaron. Made to look “burger-like,” these sweet desserts will also delight your taste buds. All of the ingredients appear to be items you’d find on a classic hamburger, but are actually delicious sweet concoctions such as raspberry instead of ketchup.

If the wide selection of beverages is a plus for you, take note… There is one Orlando dinner show that offers more beverages (included in your ticket price) than any other. Capone’s Dinner & Show may not offer Gelato milkshakes, but you’ll find a wide variety of drinks on their menu. Alcoholic drinks, including beer, wine and Al’s famous Rum Runners are included in your ticket price. Additionally, tickets are half price when ordered online!

We’re excited that the D-Luxe Burger is a dining option at Disney Springs. There are plenty of other burger joints to choose from in Orlando, but I’d venture to guess that very few  (if any) offer this type of gourmet selection. This restaurant gives an all-new meaning to “Cheeseburger in paradise.”
