Spotlight: Toothsome Chocolate Factory at CityWalk

A new restaurant called Toothsome Chocolate Factory (full name is now Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen) will be added to CityWalk’s lineup of new restaurants. Of course, anything revolving around chocolate sounds good to me! An entire restaurant? Even better!

This new Orlando restaurant joins several other new eateries added to Universal Studios within the last year. These include Cowfish, Vivo, Antojitos, Hot Dog Hall of Fame, covered in this blog post, and the NBC Sports Grill & Brew. Toothsome Chocolate Factory will replace the former NBA City restaurant which closed the summer of 2015. It will be located between Islands of Adventure and the Hard Rock Cafe.

The artist renderings of Toothsome Chocolate Factory depict plenty of factory references. Exterior pipes, gears and smokestacks will surely give the impression that production is in full swing. The interior will also be filled with production-type accents with dark wood, brass and roomy high industrial-style ceilings.

According to a Universal Orlando news release, the decor will be paired “along with staff who will look and act the part” of the Steampunk feel. Since the Wise Guys specialize in Speakeasy, we had to look up “steampunk” to be sure of what was being projected. Here is the ‘spill’… “Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction and sometimes fantasy that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery.”

Toothsome Chocolate Factory Menu

The menu at the Toothsome Chocolate Factory will include plenty of sweets, but it will also be a full restaurant so other dishes sans-choc will be included. Universal states that the entreés will include steak, seafood, pasta dishes, burgers, sandwiches and salads. They will also feature an all-day brunch. Of course, the brunch will include dessert!

Speaking of desserts, at the Toothsome Chocolate Factory, visitors will be able to watch many of the treats being made. There will be a retail shop too. You can select several decadent treats and take them home with you. They will also carry milkshakes including flavors such as Red Velvet, Key Lime Pie, Chocolate x5, Bacon Brittle and Espresso Buzzzz (in case the chocolate won’t get you ramped up, the caffeine will).

If you have a sweet tooth, Toothsome’s will be an Orlando restaurant worth checking out. Until it is open, get your fill of food and entertainment at the Speakeasy of Capone’s Dinner & Show. This Orlando dinner show has withstood the test of time – over 20 years, and like fine wine (paired with dark chocolate), just keeps getting better and better. You can bet your sweets on it!

Spotlight: NBC Sports Grill & Brew – Fun Dining at CityWalk

NBC Sports Grill & Brew interior

The NBC Sports Grill & Brew restaurant at Universal’s CityWalk will have its grand opening on October 22, 2015. It replaces the NASCAR Grille, which was closed last November. After months of renovations to the building, NBC Sports Grill & Brew is finally open as one of CityWalk’s featured bar restaurants. It is only one restaurant on CityWalk’s long list of restaurant refurbishments, which also includes Cowfish (a restaurant that boasts excellent sushi and beef), Vivo Italian Kitchen, and Hot Dog Hall of Fame.

The restaurant’s exterior is made up primarily of large windows, offering an enviable view from the inside (particularly on the second floor, where CityWalk and the lake is most visible) and making it a sight to behold from the outside. The two-floor restaurant includes an outside deck, giving guests the opportunity to enjoy Orlando’s gorgeous weather year-round!

Inside, guests will immediately feel at ease with the casual and comfortable atmosphere of the restaurant, with staff uniforms consisting of jeans and plaid shirts. The indoor part of the restaurant features dining tables that double as fully functional foosball and shuffleboard tables. The restaurant also has an open kitchen, giving gusts the opportunity to see exactly how their food is being prepared. Unique light fixtures hang from the pipe-lined ceilings, though the real source of light seems to come from the glow of 100 giant HD televisions that can seen scattered all throughout the restaurant. Because what would a sports bar be without enough TV’s to broadcast 17 different games all throughout the restaurant, right?

Beyond the abundance of flat screens, the restaurant lives up to its “Grill and Brew” name with 38 different beers on draft and 64 different beers bottled, with some local breweries represented within that 102 variety.

NBC Sports Grill & Brew Menu

The menu has some foods that you would expect, and some surprises, as well. Appetizers include barbeque sliders, warm pretzels, chicken nachos and Wisconsin cheese curds. The entrée menu has a variety of options and seems to have something for everybody, with brisket, fish tacos, chicken potpie, several different steaks, and a burger variety that includes a Quinoa and Edamame burger for vegetarians available.

This looks like a great spot for sports lovers to hit on vacation. After a busy day of theme-park adventures, NBC Sports Grill & Brew offers good food, a casual atmosphere, and enough TVs to guarantee at least one of your favorite teams will be featured. With baseball heating up during playoff season and hockey season just beginning, we’re sure this restaurant will be a hit with sports lovers as soon as its doors open!

Dinner & a Show

Meal & Movie Deal: It is unlikely that the NBC Sports Grill & Brew will be a participating restaurant in Universal’s Movie and a Meal deal. At least not in the early stages of its opening. Currently only four restaurants are offered at CityWalk (Bob Marley–A Tribute to Freedom, Fusion Bistro Sushi & Sake Bar, Jimmy Buffett’s® Margaritaville®, Pat O’Brien’s®). WISE GUY TIP: If you really like sports, why not try the Meal & Mini-golf deal? The Hollywood Drive-in Golf is a blast from the past…sort of like Capone’s Dinner & Show, only a few decades later. Speaking of Capone’s, if it is a meal deal you want, you won’t find a better deal than half price tickets which include a dinner and a show. A full buffet and unlimited drinks.

Check out the NBC Sports Grill & Brew and let Al know what you think of their “game.” Then be sure to pick up a friendly game of cards at Al’s joint the Four Deuces Lounge. It is a great pre-show experience. Just like a skybox, the VIP tickets are the best in the house. Get off the bench and get in the game! We’re saving a secret password for you!

New Restaurant to Open at CityWalk: NBC Sports Grill & Brew

drawing of new NBC Sports Grill & Brew

The NBC Sports network will open their first-ever new restaurant, NBC Sports Grill & Brew, this Fall at Universal Orlando’s CityWalk. When the NASCAR Grille closed, we knew something special would take its place, and boy is it going to be special! It will definitely appeal to not only NASCAR fans but fans of all sports (shown on NBC of course).

The new restaurant will be one of the largest sport-driven restaurants around! NBC Sports Grill & Brew will feature 90 big-screen televisions. Even people walking by will enjoy the huge screens located on the exterior of the building. A massive high definition stadium screen (more than 100-feet wide) will tower over guests as they enter the restaurant. There won’t be a seat in the house that cannot enjoy the sports on screen.

Do you like beer? There will be 100 different beers to choose from. The new theme park restaurant will also have an outdoor beer garden. What a great atmosphere for football season! Even NBC Sports anchors Liam McHugh, Mike Milbury and Keith Jones think so. Check out this video featuring the sports personalities:

An open kitchen will be located inside where you can watch chefs prepare your meal. Custom open fire grills will cook up your burgers and steaks. Other not so ordinary dishes, such as crab scotch eggs, will be on the menu. More information about the food, menu and entree prices will be announced as the opening gets nearer this Fall.

New Theme Park Restaurants at CityWalk

With so many new restaurants opening at CityWalk there is definitely something for every taste and budget. This new restaurant will fit in nicely. If you haven’t been to CityWalk lately, here is a list of newly opened or remodeled places to eat:

Many standby favorites that remain at CityWalk include:

  • Emeril’s® Restaurant Orlando
  • Jimmy Buffett’s® Margaritaville®
  • Bob Marley–A Tribute to Freedom
  • Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.™ Restaurant & Market
  • Pat O’Brien’s®

Dinner Show Attraction

If you are looking for a quick bite after leaving the theme parks, a romantic dinner for two, a late night snack or taking the family out for a feast, you’re sure to find a restaurant at CityWalk for that occasion. This Fall you’ll have yet another choice – perfect for you if you are a sports fanatic. If you are looking to sit and relax at a dinner and show, Capone’s Dinner & Show is just down the road located at 4740 W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Parkway (Highway 192) in Kissimmee, FL 34746. Only a 1/2 mile east of the S.R. 535 and 192 intersection.

Even Al and the mobsters at Capone’s like to swing a bat every now and then. Baseball season will be over by the time the NBC Sports Grill & Brew opens, but there will be plenty more action to look forward to. Speaking of action, until the new theme park restaurant is open, bring your team on into Al’s joint and catch a “bullet” during the action-packed gangster shoot out. No baseball glove required. It’s a blast!

Another New Restaurant Opens at CityWalk

A lot of hot dogs are consumed over the July 4th weekend, and the Hot Dog Hall of Fame couldn’t have opened at a better time. This new restaurant within Universal Orlando’s CityWalk is one of many that have opened this year. As posted previously, there are several new restaurants replacing culinary concepts to help revitalize this entertainment complex.

Hot dogs are one of America’s most popular foods. In fact, many of us glue ourselves to the television every year to watch the hot dog eating contest which takes place over the holiday weekend. While I love a good hot dog, it pains me to see these contestants stuff one after another into their mouths. It’s just so hard to stop watching!

The Hot Dog Hall of Fame features stadium-style seating. These seats come from stadiums all over the United States. There is also artificial turf and bleachers to make you feel as if you are in the stadium. The hots dogs also come from some of our nation’s famous ball parks. Craving a loaded Chicago dog? Stop by this new restaurant and treat yourself! Perhaps you prefer a brat from Milwaukee. They have them too. However, you may want to reconsider putting ketchup on your dog. To many culinary experts, this is just not acceptable (and possibly un-American!). Perhaps the best feature at this new restaurant is the gourmet mustard bar!

Located across from Antojitos Authentic Mexican Food which opened in February of this year, this new Orlando restaurant is easy to find and sure to be a popular quick eating alternative. Hours are from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. Prices range from $9 to $14, so I doubt you will want to get into a hot dog eating contest at these prices, but one or two are sure to fill you up.

If you are looking for a place to eat your favorite hot dog, be sure to check out the Hot Dog Hall of Fame. If you are open to other American favorites, be sure to save a night for a dinner show. While hot dogs are not on the menu at Capone’s Dinner & Show, feel free to stuff yourself with many other American favorites. Kids (and adults) love the pizza and chicken bites. Picky pasta eaters get to create their own combination of pastas and sauces. Let’s not forget the meat carving station where you can sample three delicious freshly roasted meats. Best of all, tickets are half price when you purchase them online.

This new restaurant at Orlando’s theme parks is sure to be a hit. Another hit you don’t want to swing and miss is Capone’s Dinner & Show. Let Al and the gang take you out to a different type of ball park and immerse yourself in 1930’s gangland Chicago. It’s a blast!

Grand Opening of New Restaurant at Universal CityWalk

Antojitos Restaurant

On Wednesday 2/5/14, the much anticipated Mexican restaurant Antojitos Restaurant at Universal CityWalk will celebrate its grand opening. The space that once held Latin Quarter, has now been replaced with an authentic Mexican restaurant. This new restaurant in Orlando is just one of the many changes going on at Universal CityWalk.

As reported in an earlier post other new restaurants are being built and some are already open. Although Antojito translates as “small bites,” this Orlando Mexican restaurant will also feature a large variety of tequilas (about 200 kinds of tequila will be on display). Order a margarita from the outdoor Volkswagen van bar! Mission-style decor (including a real 19th-century bell atop the main tower entrance) has been selected for upstairs and downstairs seating with indoor and outdoor availability. A total of 648 guests can be seated.

At this time, the hours for food service will be 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 5 p.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. It should be a great place to grab an appetizer before enjoying a movie or socializing at one of the many night life options at CityWalk. If you enjoy Mexican cuisine, it may even be worth a special trip to this Orlando attraction just to dine.

Familiar dishes will be served as well as not-so-familiar, including Guajillo Chicken with Jalapeno Cornbread and Menonita Shrimp (bacon-wrapped over manchego corn). Appetizers called Esquites Asado (roasted corn, jalapeno mayonnaise, queso fresco, chips) and Tamale Fritters with guajillo aioli are also planned for the menu. A featured dessert, molten cajeta de leche, will be served with sour cream ice cream. Entrees will run about $20, with upstairs dining being slightly more formal. Each floor has its own kitchen and everything is made fresh as guests can watch.

While there is no shortage of Mexican restaurants in Orlando or Kissimmee, this new restaurant is sure to be busy. There are a lot of fun things to do at CityWalk, and with the evening party atmosphere, Antojitos should be celebrating success very quickly. Maybe soon we’ll know if and when the bell atop this new restaurant will ring!
