Here\u2019s your chance to check out <strong>World Sword Swallowers Day<\/strong>! In conjunction with the <strong>Sword Swallowers Association International (SSAI)<\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ripleys.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ripley\u2019s Believe It or Not! Odditorium<\/a><\/strong> will be hosting this event Saturday, February 25<sup>th <\/sup>2017.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In Orlando, Central Florida&#8217;s own Ted Campbell (aka &#8220;Will Rotten&#8221;) will demonstrate his amazing sword swallowing skills. He&#8217;ll be joined by other local sword swallowers, including Red Stuart, who will attempt to swallow more than 50 swords at one time! The show will start at 1:30 pm with the Big Swallow finale at 2:25 pm. The show is FREE and will take place at Ripley&#8217;s Orlando Odditorium.<\/p>\n<p>On World Swallowing Day in previous\u00a0years, 22 performers swallowed more than 138 feet of steel at 10 Ripley\u2019s Odditoriums! Why is there a World Sword Swallower\u2019s Day? \u201cWe sword swallowers risk our lives every time we swallow swords, but many people don\u2019t believe it\u2019s real, or they think the art has died out,\u201d explains Dan Meyer, a sword swallower who has been featured in Ripley\u2019s Believe It or Not!. The day was initiated to \u201craise awareness of the medical contributions sword swallowers have made to the fields of medicine and science, to honor veteran performers, to raise funds for esophageal cancer research and the Injured Sword Swallower\u2019s Relief Fund (with donations matched by Ripley\u2019s), and to correct myths by putting on sword swallowing demonstrations for the public and media around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sword swallowing originated in India before 2000 BC, and during these early times it was a demonstration of power. As it expanded over time and migrated to other countries, it became more of a theatrical event, and was introduced in America at the Chicago World&#8217;s Fair back in 1933.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSword swallowers and Ripley go way back to the very first Ripley\u2019s Believe It or Not! Odditorium\u201d, said Tim O\u2019Brien, VP of Communications for Ripley Entertainment Inc.
