It has been open for 18 years, and will possibly make a return as an attraction, however, for now, it is closing to the public.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><div class='et-box et-alert'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'>At this time, this Central Florida attraction remains closed to the public.<\/div><\/div><\/p>\n<p>The $30 million attraction opened near Polk City in 1995 and is home to about <strong>100 rare and vintage aircraft,<\/strong> some dating back to World War I. For many visitors, Fantasy of Flight is more like a <strong>museum<\/strong>. Many of the planes are from the private collection of Kermit Weeks, a pilot and aviation buff. He started moving the planes from South Florida after Hurricane Andrew hit there in 1992.<\/p>\n<p>Attendance at this <strong>aviation-themed attraction<\/strong> has been low. Weeks stated, <em>\u201cWe have a great product, but people have a misperception of what we offer.\u201d<\/em> He hopes to eventually open a <strong>bigger attraction<\/strong> under the same name at the same site. Until then, the main building will revert to a restoration and maintenance facility for the planes. Visitors that want to have their <strong>wedding, meeting or corporate event<\/strong> will still be accommodated.<\/p>\n<p>Fantasy of Flight is open Thursday &#8211; Sunday 10am &#8211; 5pm. An adult (13+) ticket is $29.95 and a child (6-12) ticket is $15.95. Additional fees are required to experience the <strong>ropes course<\/strong> or <strong>zip line<\/strong>. If you\u2019ve never experienced this smaller Central Florida attraction, be sure to go in the coming weeks before they close to the public.
