That is, unless, there are disasters such as oil spills, algae blooms, scallop shortages or other natural disasters. When the harvesting season opens, you&#8217;d better <em>get \u2018em while the gettin\u2019 is good!<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Where to Go for Florida Bay Scallop Season<\/h2>\n<p>This time of year is great for those who harvest the scallops. It&#8217;s also great for the area restaurants that keep business booming with these great-tasting delicacies. The water in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.steinhatchee.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Steinhatchee<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is usually very clear. This area is a fisherman\u2019s paradise and one of the most popular areas for Florida bay scallops. Snorkelers have great success getting bags and bags of them. Closer to Central Florida the nearest legal harvest area is off the shores of Hernando County, including Crystal River and Homosassa Bay. Remember there are <a href=\"https:\/\/myfwc.com\/fishing\/saltwater\/recreational\/bay-scallops\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>rules<\/strong><\/a>, which include daily limits, harvest areas, and required saltwater fishing license. <em>Please follow the rules!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hopefully, this year will yield more Florida bay scallops and keep prices from rising any more than they already have. Be sure to thoroughly check out the news prior to heading over to the coast for the Florida bay scallop season. If bad weather is expected, save the trip for another time. It is hurricane season after all. Also, check to make sure there are no beach closures and that Florida&#8217;s state waters remain open to recreational fishing.<\/p>\n<h3>Fun &amp; Worth the Drive<\/h3>\n<p>Maybe your trip to the Orlando area didn\u2019t originally call for a day of harvesting Florida&#8217;s bay scallops, but since you&#8217;re here, why not give it a try? In a couple of hours&#8217; drive, you could be hoisting up your divers-down flag and harvesting a great appetizer or an entire dinner!
