Disney's Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue

On the list of Orlando's top dinner shows, Disney's Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue dinner show is often overlooked. Tucked away within Disney's Fort Wilderness Campground, only guests staying at this campground are often aware of its existence. However, it has been performing since 1974 - one of the longest running Orlando dinner shows! Read about other Disney dinner shows.

Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue

This is one of the best Disney dinner shows. As with most Disney productions, the cast is extremely talented. During the 90-minute production, there is a lot of singing and dancing, so get ready to do some clapping and singing along! The cast of six Pioneer Hall Players do their best to get the crowd involved and roused up. Even the wait staff get involved. You'll be singing along in no time.

Picture yourself in the Wild West days at a pioneer hall where entertainment keeps the crowds in high spirits. Well-choreographed skits and dances with a zany vaudeville style will amuse your family. It is family-friendly and the crowd involvement often involves corny jokes...which your entire family will love. With a leading lady and a lead saloon gent, a perfect balance of fun, flirtation fun and hootenanny behaviour will keep you entertained.

The rustic Pioneer Hall is made with 1,283 hand-fitted pine logs from Montana. Stones are used to help create a late 1800s look, including 70 tons of stones from North Carolina. The building opened on April Fool's day in 1974. If anyone doubted their success, well, they would be the fool. Read more about their 40th anniversary on Al's blog. However, because of the somewhat openness of the theater and the smoked meat, severe or inclement weather can often cause the show to be cancelled.

Menu:

During the show and in between skits and songs, guest enjoy American cuisine consisting of fried chicken (breaded and fried to perfection), smoked BBQ pork ribs (with a fall-off-the-bone tenderness), a tossed green salad, coleslaw, baked beans (of course!), mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, cornbread (passed around your table) and for dessert - Ma's Famous Strawberry Shortcake.

In fact, the menu has remained the same since this Orlando dinner show opened, with the exception of dessert. When the show originally started, good ol' apple pie was served. Serving up that much pie certainly had its challenges, so it was replaced with strawberry shortcake in 1979. This change also prompted the song, "Apple Pie Hoedown" be be replaced with "Strawberry Short Cake Walk." As for the rest of the show, it has been tweaked here and there (mostly due to a cast member's special talent), but much of the same musical revue remains as it did over 40 years ago.

Water, soft drinks, tea and coffee are served. If you are 21 years of age or older, you may enjoy unlimited draft beer, wine and sangria. Craft beers are also available.

Tickets:

Tickets are offered in three categories. Category 1 is nearest the stage on the first floor. Some Category 2 seats are also on the first floor, beyond the category 1 seats further from the stage. There are also Category 2 seats in the center of the balcony. Category 3 seats are what is left behind - on the right or left side of the stage in the balcony.

The cost for these Orlando dinner show tickets are:
Category 1 - $74 (Ages 10 and older) and $44 (Age 3 to 9)
Category 2 - $69 (Ages 10 and older) and $40 (Age 3 to 9)
Category 3 - $66 (Ages 10 and older) and $39 (Age 3 to 9)

Reservations can be made at any Disney property concierge's desk or by calling 407-939-3463, and are encouraged as much as 60 days in advance. Arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your show time to pick up your tickets. Show times vary be are often held 3 times per night - 4:00 p.m., 6:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

As with many Disney properties, if you have special dietary needs, you need to let them know at the time of your reservation. If you are celebrating a special occassion, let them know that too. Specialty cakes can be ordered for an additional charge if ordered 48 hours in advance.

Recommendation:

Because of this show being a little expensive for most families, we would recommend it being on your to-do list at least once. Perhaps not every vacation, but if you are staying at the Wilderness campground with children or teenagers, be sure to try it. The strawberry shortcake is worth the experience! Come hungry. You'll eat until you're stuffed. Do NOT be on a diet! The honey butter on the cornbread will put you over any calorie count, so why bother?! Go, enjoy the meal, and be sure to sing along. A good time is really what it's all about.
