Universal Studios New Ride Opens: Despicable Me Minion Mayhem

Despicable Me Minion Mayhem

While Capone’s Dinner and Show transports its guests back to 1930 gangland Chicago, a new attraction at Univeral Studios Orlando will transform guests into yellow-skinned, goggle-eyed “minions.” It all begins today as the Orlando theme park celebrates the grand opening of its newest ride.

Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, is a 3-D motion simulator ride based on the 2010 animated film “Despicable Me.” It features “minions” — little yellow goggled creatures — along with gruff Gru and his three adopted daughters. It’s popularity is guaranteed to continue because of a sequel to the film set to open next summer.

If you are not familiar with the film, don’t worry. The ride is still a great adventure. Your experience begins as you enter Gru’s home, where you’ll learn that your being recruited to become a minion and undergo “minion training.” Things don’t go as planned, and you will find yourself on a wildly hysterical journey with Gru and his daughters. Once you make it through training, you’ll join an interactive, minion-inspired dance party where you can show off your best moves.

Minion Mayhem replaces Jimmy Neutron’s Nicktoon Blast and joins Universal Studio’s new parade and evening lagoon show that have also been added this year. All efforts have been made to gear up for the annual summer travel rush and this park has really done it up!

Feel free to share your experience about Universal’s new ride by adding a comment to this story. Once you’ve been transformed into a yellow-skinned, goggle-eyed “minion,” we’d like to invite you to spend a night at Capone’s Dinner & Show. During our show, you’ll be able to see some of our dance moves, sit back, relax, eat a nice meal and be entertained in true 3-D!

2 New Features Now at Universal Orlando

Guests at Universal Orlando will now be able to enjoy 2 more additions to the Orlando theme park’s line-up. A few hours before the park closes, the all-new Superstar Parade will now be weaving its way through portions of the park. This is the first daily parade in the park’s history. It features new floats and characters from “Despicable Me,” “Hop,” SpongeBob SquarePants” and “Dora the Explorer.” Tip: Be in the New York or Hollywood section of the park where the parade has 3-minute show stops. This is where you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy the performances, the state-of-the-art technology as well as the hundreds of energetic street performers that make up this new addition to Universal Orlando. If you are looking to meet some of these characters, check out the park’s signage as to the where and when the meet-and-greets will be held. The floats are used as mobile backdrops for the character meet-and-greets.

The second addition to Universal Orlando’s entertainment line-up is the “Universal’s Cinematic Spectacular: 100 years of Movie Memories.” This new nighttime lagoon show celebrates the most powerful and emotional moments from Universal Pictures’ most iconic films. It all happens on waterfall screens with colorful fountains and pyrotechnics synchronized with a powerful musical score. As you watch the show, you’ll be taken on a journey through epic cinematic moments filled with heroes, horror, laughter, good vs. evil and triumph. Morgan Freeman narrates the new show which features scenes from about 200 films. Tip: Get comfortable before the show begins. It lasts around 20 minutes and there are a few “splash zones” to avoid (or not).

Universal Studios has promoted 2012 as the “Year to be Here,” and with these new features, it is well on its way to offering their theme park guests a great day of thrills and memories. Later this summer a new attraction, “Despicable Me Minion Mayhem” will open, about a year before the motion picture Despicable Me 2 arrives in theaters July 3, 2013. Hey Muggles! Harry’s Wizarding World is Offering Vacation Packages!

Hogwarts Castle at Universal Studios

Universal Studios offers vacation packages to visit Hogwarts

The announcement of vacation packages being offered by Universal Studio’s for their new Harry Potter theme park is pretty big news here in Orlando. We have heard “coming in Spring” for awhile now, but that date has been narrowed down with the offering of package deals starting May 28, 2010. Surely Universal wouldn’t offer packages without a park being open!!

The packages range from $285 per adult up to $1,548+ for a family of four. The package includes hotel room, park admission – 3 days – one day at each park, transportation from your hotel to the park and included in some packages, early admission into the park, breakfast at Three Broomsticks™ and a commemorative GRAND OPENING ticket. Air flights and more can be added. See more details here.

Universal has been hesitant to give out too much information about the park. Most of us are Muggles, afterall! Could the Hogwart’s castle be filled with secret passageways, talking portraits and headless ghosts? What will the Forbidden Journey™, Flight of the Hippogriff™ and Dragon Challenge™ be like? Universal claims the “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey” ride will surpass the Spiderman ride. Wow!

What will Butterbeer and Treacle Fudge taste like? What will the frogs be singing? Starting May 28, many wizards will be finding out! Instead of going to school on a train, vacationers will be flying on modern broomsticks to start their summer vacations in a wizarding world! Let’s just hope these seekers catch the snitches so Universal and Central Florida will emerge the winner!
