Summer Matinee Special Offer

Summer is arriving in Florida and things are really heating up! The returning tourists are looking for a hot time, and Al’s gang has the perfect solution. Skip the afternoon heat at the parks or beach and opt for a matinee show instead.

A matinee show at Capone’s Dinner & Show has everything an evening show offers. It is a great way to have a mid-day meal, a few drinks (included in the cost), and be entertained for a couple of hours. After the fun, you’ll still have plenty of time to enjoy another attraction, avoiding the heat of the day.

Matinee Show Hot Deal

To help you stay cool this summer, Capone’s is offering a discount code for their matinee show scheduled for Thursday, June 17 at 1:00 p.m. Order tickets online and enter HOT2021 to receive a discounted adult ticket for only $32.99. If you call in your reservation, mention this same code to get the matinee deal.

Heat Wave History

1935 Heatwave

It may seem hot now, but did you know? Almost every year from 1930 to 1938 featured historic heat waves and droughts somewhere in North America. This era was part of the Dust Bowl years. In fact, the heatwave of 1936 was one of the most severe in our history. It caused over 5,000 deaths. Without air conditioning and a lack of moisture (dust bowl), many state and city record high temps were set that year. It was followed by one of the coldest winters on record.

If you are looking for other ways to beat the heat, the wise guys wrote a great article. Check it out, then be sure to order your matinee tickets. The earlier you order, the better the seats.

Don’t let the summer heatwave stop you from having a great time. Beat the heat. Attend the matinee show and stay cool!

The pandemic has created a lot of madness. It was just last year in mid-March things were shutting down. Stay at home! Wash your hands! Wear a mask! “Social distancing” became an everyday term. It was the start of a new type of madness for us. Protests, riots, heated elections, and other maddening things are happening all around us. News flash… maddening things have been going on throughout history.

Capone's March Madness

Other Historical March Madness

Here are just a few of the interesting historical events that have taken place in the month of March:

  • March 5, 1770 – The Boston Massacre occurred.
  • March 6, 1836 – Fort Alamo fell to Mexican troops.
  • March 10, 1862 – $5, $10 and $20 bills began circulation in the U.S. Mad cash, anyone?
  • March 5, 1868 – The attempt to impeach President Andrew Johnson failed by just one vote.
  • March 11, 1918 – Spanish influenza first reached America.
  • March 1, 1932 – The 20-month-old son of Charles A. Lindbergh was kidnapped.
  • March 30, 1981 – President Ronald Reagan was shot.
  • March 24, 1989 – The oil tanker Exxon Valdez ran aground.
  • March 19, 2003 – The U. S. launched an attack against Iraq to topple Saddam Hussein from power.

One More Historical Example

Additionally, let’s take a look back at March 1933. Newly elected president, Franklin D. Roosevelt signed an act permitting the manufacturing and sale of low-alcohol beer and wines. Later that year the 18th Amendment was repealed. Prohibition was over.

March Madness ends with Roosevelt signing act

If you’d like to experience what was going on prior to this date in history, step back in time and make reservations at Capone’s Dinner & Show. Get into the prohibition era and count down to a little March Madness of your own. Don’t sit on the bench! This offer expires on March 31, 2021.

Bring the Entire Team

Groups are welcome at Al’s joint. Sweet sixteen? No problem. The wise guys and gals can accommodate large parties. Not ready for that? Bring your starting five, or maybe a final four, or a championship of two. The gang will seat you at your own table.** Then let the madness begin.

Finally, check your attitude at the door (wise guys will be refereeing and don’t want you to be foul), say the secret password, and enter a new type of madness this March. One that will have you singin’ a song, tappin’ your feet, and lettin’ the madness of the outside world march on! It’s a slam dunk you don’t want to miss. This special deal is an offer you can’t refuse!

*plus tax & gratuity. Valid through March 31, 2021. New reservations only.

**Mid-march Update: On busy nights, parties may now be sharing a long table with other groups of people. If this lack of spacing is of concern to you, please notify us at the time of your reservation. Request a private table (near the back). We will attempt to space guests as much as possible. We are thankful for the return of guests. Thank you for your patience as we begin this transition to normalcy.

Free Beer Here! (and at SeaWorld Orlando this Summer)

Capone’s has always offered free beer for their guests, however, this summer SeaWorld Orlando will also be giving away a brew or two! The summer promotion begins May 25 and continues through September 2. This longtime tradition at SeaWorld is returning again. We say cheers!

History of Free Beer at SeaWorld

Busch Gardens in Tampa offered free beer years before SeaWorld did. They were, after all, both owned by Anheuser-Busch, maker of Budweiser. It only made sense to offer a taste of their product at the theme park. It wasn’t much, but park visitors enjoyed the sample.

Around 1992, their sister park, SeaWorld Orlando started offering cups of beer. It was a nice touch, especially on a hot day. Even the Budweiser Clydesdales paraded through the Orlando theme park twice a day. Then in 2009, a ‘last call’ was announced. The cold draft stopped flowing (for free). Little did we know at the time, Anheuser-Busch was selling SeaWorld Orlando’s parent company to the Blackstone Group.

How to Get Your Free Beer

SeaWorld Pass Members can enjoy a free 14-ounce domestic brew now. They do not have to wait for May 25, 2019. The complimentary beer is available to guests 21 years of age and older from 10:30 a.m. to one hour before the park closes. To get your free beer, visit the Patio Bar next to Mama’s Pretzel Kitchen. You will be asked to show a valid Pass and photo ID to redeem. Once summer begins, all adults will have access to their free beer.

As was mentioned at the beginning of this post, Capone’s Dinner & Show also offers free beer. The wise guys and doll faces have been serving it since 1992! Prohibition or not, suds are served each evening at this joint. Beer, wine and other adult beverages are included in your ticket. Unlike SeaWorld, you don’t have to stop at having only one free drink. However, you are asked to drink responsibly. You will need to show a photo ID as proof of age.

Speaking of age, Capone’s also offers ‘virgin drinks’ or ‘mocktails’ and many other beverages. This is great for the kids in your group (and teetotalers).

Other Free Stuff

Join the millions of visitors (21 million annually, to be exact) to visit SeaWorld this summer. Take advantage of the free beer. Of course, there are many other, more important, features about this Orlando theme park. New attractions have opened, including the recent opening of Sesame Street land! Also, on select nights this summer, Electric Ocean is sure to be spectacular.

If you like free beverages, you might also like free attractions. Check out our post about the free fun things to do in this area. Skip the busy theme parks for a day and give your wallet a break.

After a day at the theme park or free attraction, join the gang at Capone’s and ‘tip a few’ with Al’s pals. Enjoy the cabaret show and delicious buffet. It’s a blast that everyone in your group will enjoy. See you soon… and cheers!

History of the Early Bird Special

The first written record of an “early bird special” dates back to July 12, 1904. There was a sale on men’s summer underwear at a department store named Olds, Wortman and King. I guess in Oregon, July would still be considered ‘early’ for summer underwear? Later in the 30s, stores used early bird specials during the first few hours after a store opened. Get your fedora on sale while they last!

Furthermore, early bird specials began appearing with food-related deals in the 20s. Ads promoting “early bird breakfasts” were adopted by restaurants across the country. The term didn’t get paired with dinner and supper until the 50s. However, it was highly popular in Florida, especially in the 80s and 90s. This is also when ‘early bird specials’ became associated with the elderly. It was even written into a script in a 1985 episode of The Golden Girls (set in Miami, Florida).

Other Early Birds

If you’ve heard the phrase “the early bird catches the worm,” you’re familiar with an old English proverb. It dates back to 1605! The phrase is often used to motivate teens to get up early, encourage employees for success and describe morning people.

Early Bird Dinner TheaterIf you live or have visited Clearwater, Florida, you may have heard of Ed Fletcher’s Early Bird Dinner Theatre. If you are in the area, we highly recommend checking it out. Like Capone’s Dinner & Show, this theater has been around for over 25 years. It is a popular attraction in Tampa Bay. Their shows are funny and entertaining. Dinner is buffet-style provided by an onsite catering company. Additionally, a full-service bar is on site. Unlike Capone’s, it is not open every evening and the show varies. Visit them on the web or call 727-446-5898 for more information.

Regardless of when you like to eat, it’s hard to beat Capone’s Dinner & Show in the Orlando/Kissimmee area.  Attend the upcoming early show and enjoy an early bird special fit for your entire flock. It doesn’t take a jailbird to figure out the advantage of getting out early!

Last-Minute Valentine’s Plans

It can happen to the best of us. We wait until we’re scrambling and then have to make last-minute Valentine’s plans. Or… one Sweetheart expects something more than is planned; one Sweetheart hasn’t planned anything at all, or the plans that have been made fail miserably. Any of these scenarios can result in a whole lot of not-love going around. Here is some advice from the Wise Guys & Gals to keep these scenarios from happening this evening (or Saturday) with YOUR Sweetheart… even if you are reading this and making last-minute Valentine’s plans.

Plain and simple last-minute Valentine’s plans… take your “Gal” or “Goon” to a dinner show at Capone’s tonight!

There are still a few tickets available for tonight’s Capone’s Valentine’s Show. The early show option is extremely limited, however, tickets are readily available for the late show (8:30 pm). Either way, it will seem as if you’ve planned this evening for weeks! Purchase tickets online, pick up your date and show up for the show! Or, purchase tickets, call a cab or Uber and arrive at the show ready to enjoy the unlimited drinks included in your show ticket.

Tickets are only $34.99 adults and $22.99 kids (plus tax and gratuity). There still may be a limited number of VIP Tickets available at $46.99 adults and $31.99 kids (plus tax and gratuity). However, since you’ve waited until now (like a true flat tire) and are making last-minute Valentine’s plans, don’t count on those VIP tickets.

Last-Minute Valentine’s Plans 2 nights, 2 shows

Saturday has Two (2) Shows too!

With V-day being on a weekday, perhaps you’re planning to celebrate your love this weekend instead of tonight. Capone’s has you covered there too! This Saturday, February 18, there are also two show times available (5 pm and 8:30 pm). Tickets are available for both of these shows…at least for now. Even though it’s not really, really last-minute Valentine’s plans, attending the show on Saturday gives you a few more days to make it extra special. HINT: Spring for some roses or jewelry to go along with the dinner show tickets!

Pre-order a boa &/or a fedora and get into the spirit & have fun!

Costume accessories are definitely the cat’s meow. Have fun while you’re out for the evening! Get into the era! Cheap accessories can be found in the gift shop if you forget to purchase them online with your tickets. For those of you wanting to be treated like a big boss or significant skirt, Capone’s VIP tickets are the way to go. VIP tickets include:

  • Early admission (enjoy Al’s Four Deuces Lounge)
  • Tokens for table games
  • A take-home souvenir shot glass
