Where will you travel to this Memorial Day weekend? What will you do? AAA predicts that more Americans will travel for Memorial Day, but high gas prices and airfares will force them to cut back on activities like dining and concerts. Pump prices are at the highest level they have been in three years but have started to drop. Not soon enough; many people are looking for fun things to do in Orlando or nearby so they won’t have to spend a lot on gas. Luckily there is a lot to do around here!
If you’d like to attend a traditional Memorial Day event, the City of Sanford will honor our American soldiers on Monday, May 30, 2011, with a parade beginning on 1st Street at 10 am and traveling through the historic downtown area. It will be followed by a tribute at the Veteran’s Memorial Park on the waterfront with honorary guests, a 21-gun salute, and a fly-over by the Sheriff’s office. This year’s parade theme is “Sanford Remembers.” Call 407-688-5004 for more information and to verify times and locations.
If you’re planning a day at one of our theme parks, check out Epcot in Disney World. You can celebrate Memorial Day by seeing the American Adventure audio-animatronic show that tells the American story of a family that is driven apart by the Civil War. While you are at the American Adventure, stay and listen to the Voices of Liberty A Capella group, and the Spirit of America Fife and Drum Corps that sing and play classic American tunes.
Maybe you’re planning to attend Star Wars this weekend at Hollywood Studios or the Orlando Fringe Festival. Maybe you’d rather load up the car and spend a day at the beach. Make sure before you head out for the day to check beach conditions and bring plenty of sunscreen.
Whatever your plans, Capone’s Dinner and Show would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our veterans and active-duty soldiers for their service. We appreciate the sacrifices you and your family have made for our freedom. After your day of activities, we’d like to invite you to an evening of fun and dining at our Orlando dinner show. Our theater is air conditioned and we serve up a great dinner buffet and unlimited drink supply. Happy Memorial Day everyone!
