Grand Reef SeaWorld Discovery Cove
SeaWorld’s Discovery Cove just opened its new Grand Reef and it is, well, simply grand! What began a little over a year ago as an expansion to the park, is now open and flowing with life – not just marine life, but humans too! This new 2.5 acre reef theme park attraction is designed so that people, regardless of their swimming capabilities, can enjoy a multitude of fish and marine species. Unlike the old reef, this one features fewer drop-offs or levels, and is providing a more comfortable experience for everyone. That is, if you are comfortable swimming with a shark a few feet away!

There are 125 species of fish and other sea creatures, including 5 species of sharks. The sharks are enclosed in a separate portion of the reef, with a glass wall to separate them from the guests. However, when you swim up to the glass, it is hardly noticeable, because it is positioned at an angle, giving the guest a close encounter experience. Sharks may even be swimming underneath you! Lionfish can also be viewed in their own secluded habitat (due to them being very predatory).

Don’t want to swim to the sharks? Why not walk up to them instead? Confused? Well, you won’t be when Discovery Cove opens their new underwater walking tourSeaVenture. This tour includes dive helmets that are lowered onto guests heads as they step down a ladder into the reef. Guests will then creep through the reef with up-close encounters with the shark tank as well as thousands of other fish. This attraction will cost an additional fee and is expected to be available very soon.

With summer heating up, this Florida theme park is sure to see an increase in visitors. What a grand way to cool off! You’ll get your exercise and an education while petting a ray, or swimming near an eel. For more information, go to www.discoverycove.com.
