All eyes are on Universal Studios these days. With the announcement that Diagon Alley would be open to the public July 8, 2014, the media are being allowed limited access to help promote the Orlando theme park’s new attraction. Reports are, that not everything is complete, but close. On top of this opening announcement, the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon has been broadcasting from Universal this week. A lot of movie stars are being spotted and numerous special activities are going on.

Grand Opening of Diagon Alley

Diagon Alley

Everyone has a good view of the fire-breathing dragon atop Gringotts Bank, and it is impressive. As expected, the interior is impressive as well. The rides are being tested and at this point no delays are expected. The shops, and there are a lot of shops, appear to be ready for business. Going to Diagon Alley in the movies was all about shopping, and in real life, at least here at Universal Studios, it is the same.

Shops include:

  • Leaky Cauldron™
  • Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlour
  • Ollivanders™
  • PWeasleys’ Wizard Wheezes
  • Borgin and Burkes
  • Magical Menagerie™
  • Madam Malkin’s Robes for all Occasions
  • Wiseacre’s Wizarding Equipment
  • Quality Quidditch™ Supplies

Magical Wands & More

Wave the wand and be a part of the magic. The new interactive wands being sold (for about $35) in Diagon Alley are a hit. Various locations within the Orlando theme park allow wand holders to create a little magic by waving their wand and reciting some magical words. This will be a lot of fun for children and adults.

The ride on Hogwarts Express has been reviewed by the actors in the movies. They say the scenery is remarkably like a view you’d have on a train in England. Journey between the theme parks and enjoy full access to all that Universal Studios has to offer. You may not believe you’re in Orlando any longer!

Soft openings of this new attraction could be held at any time. If you are an annual passholder, you could attend the theme park every day and have a change to be one of the first to ride the new Escape from Gringotts ride.  This breathtaking, mind-blowing, new, 3D multi-dimensional ride is definitely going to be memorable!

Now that the opening date has been announced, will you go to Diagon Alley right away?  Let us know when you expect to experience this new attraction by leaving a comment here on Al’s blog. As for this Muggle, I’ll wait until the crowds die down.
