Disney’s dinner shows have a little more competition from within now that the new Trattoria al Forno restaurant is open. Disney’s Boardwalk resort opened the new Italian Restaurant near Kissimmee earlier this month. While there is no formal show offered, the restaurant itself is quite a showcase. It has a story to tell all its own.

Everything that was imagined while preparing for this new restaurant (see earlier post) has come to fruition. With everything brand new, the quality and detail of Trattoria al Forno truly makes this a spectacular place to dine at Disney. The open kitchen and family-friendly dining rooms (there are four distinct dining rooms) weave a story all their own. Add in the vintage family photos, brick walls and aged keystone medallion anchors, and you’ll feel as if you’ve been transported to an Italian countryside farm.

While the setting follows the story of an Italian family’s modest tavern and boarding house on the boardwalk which expands over the years into a popular restaurant, it is the menu that completes the show. The mix of authentic and innovative dishes seem to have been handed down, with each generation adding their own touches to the delicious meals. A few of the dishes to try include:

  • Neapolitan-style pizzas
  • Veal Marsala from Sicily
  • Spaghetti alla Carbonara from Lazio
  • Parmigiano Reggiano from Emilio-Romagna
  • Risotto from Lombardy
  • 16-ounce T-bone steak Served Florentine-style
  • Braised Beef Bolognese

For breakfast try something a little different (traditional American dishes are also offered):

  • Waffles with Espresso-mascarpone Cream
  • Caramel Apple Crumb Pancakes
  • Poached Eggs with Fennel Sausage
  • Parmesan and Tomato Gravy over Soft Polenta

As with any great Italian restaurant, a fine wine menu is offered. Trattoria al Forno offers a 100% Italian wine list, including nearly 70 wines from Italy’s 20 wine regions. Don’t worry if you are not familiar with some of the wines. A description for every single wine is included along with the region and grape variety! For those not wanting to drink wine, signature cocktails, Italian beers, a signature-blend Italian coffee and sodas are also included in the beverage menu.

Trattoria al Forno is open from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for breakfast, and 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. for dinner. They are one of the Disney restaurants that accepts the Disney Dining Plan. For reservations, call 407-WDW-DINE or go to www.disneyworld.com/dine.
