October is breast cancer awareness month and during this time many activities and fund-raisers are held in the Orlando area to help battle this disease and help those afflicted with it. One of the most active groups of people that can be found supporting this cause are motorcycle riders. They hold and attend more events for this disease than any other group I know of. Many rides are organized to help with individual expenses for women who have the disease and are having difficulties paying their bills. However, many organized events raise money to help women throughout the year, or go towards helping find a cure. Regardless, these events are fun to attend and the money goes to a great cause. If you want to have fun in October, look for an event that looks pink!
Starting Saturday, October 1, you can join the Clermont HOG chapter in supporting the Compassionate Hands and Hearts Breast Cancer Awareness event. This is the organization that news anchor Venessa Echols founded after she battled the disease. The event is a traditional poker hand where you draw a card at several locations and the biker with the best hand at the end of the ride wins. It costs $10 for one hand for a rider, $5 if you have a passenger or want to play an additional hand. These poker runs are always a lot of fun and this one goes to a great cause.
On October 8 from 11am – 3pm you can ride your scooter on over to Gator Harley-Davidson in Leesburg for a fund-raiser and enjoy door prizes, free food and live music. Ladies receive a 20% discount on Pink Label merchandise and 5% of the motor clothes sales go to Compassionate Hands & Hearts Breast Cancer Outreach.
