Visiting Orlando during the busiest time of the year can be frustrating to say the least. Every northern transportation option into Orlando can be  risky because of the weather in northern cities  which can lead to vast airline delays, disrupting your Orlando vacation. The thing is it’s the most  fabulous time of year to visit Orlando, so this is one of the few periods I would recomend purchasing travel insurance.

Because it is Orlando’s busiest period of the year navigating your visit can make the difference between a joyful or stressful vacation. As a tourism insider in Orlando for over twenty years I have some tips for your vacation to make it a cherished memory.

Depending upon where your staying makes a big difference in how much time it takes you to get you where you want to go. Waiting for Disney transportation is awful, unless you are staying in one of their most costly hotels, the traffic on roads leading to any of the tourist spots is typically bad depending on when you leave your hotel or motel and I know you don’t want to spend your vacation stuck in traffic.

If you are staying on Disney property which is the largest hotelier in the Orlando metropolitan area. Avoid the early admission days as it’s very popular which translates into longer waits to board the buses if your not staying in one of the hotels on the monorail system. Also the monorail system is very old and has had multiple incidents recently. The answer to Disney transportation issues is to avoid the heaviest traffic times like after the fireworks end, leave early for the parks on the days that early admission isn’t offered, and  sleep late on those days when it is not offered .

Hotels and motels off Disney property include International Dr ive, Orlando South Kissimmee Resort area, and Universal Studios offering a limited number of rooms. Depending upon where you wish to visit while in Orlando will make a huge difference in transportation times and also save some cash.

If your primarily visiting Universal Orlando, Sea World and many other International Drive Resort area attractions. You can stay at Universal but it will be expensive due to the limited number of rooms on property and you will encounter the same transportation wait issues as at Walt Disney World. The International Drive Resort area comprised of indepently owned hotels and motels is the areas largest pool of hotel and motel options. Pick a property that offers free transportation and save the fifteen dollars a day parking cost at both Universal Orlando and the Walt Disney World resort.

The remaing option is staying in the Orlando South Resort area Kissimmee if you’re primarily visiting the Walt Disney World Resort. Transportation back from the Parks after the fireworks will be your biggest transportation issue. You have a large selection of economy motels, new franchise hotels and motels in the Orlando South Kissimmee Resort area. One of Orlando’s nicest hotels is the Gaylord Palms and it’s located in the Orlando South Kissimmee Resort Area. There are numerous mom and pop motels which can be a real bargain but with older motels be aware some are kept up nicely but there are some dives so if you decide to stay in the Orlando South Kissimmee Resort Area use one of the travel sites to ensure the quality you will get. I know this is repetative but pick a hotel or motel that offers transportation to the Walt Disney World Resort, many also offer transportation to International Drive Resort area attractions and some even have airport transportation. It also will save you cash with about every franchise restaurant there is. Satying at The Walt Disney World Resort will cost you more money on dining and just about everything else you need to buy on vacation. If you’re mainly planing on visiting the Walt Disney World Resort attractions unless you stay at a high end Disney hotel the Orlando South Kissimmee Resort area will offer the least traffic problems, save you money and give you freedom.

My personal choice is to rent a car for most of your transportation needs as it gives you much more flexibility and there are so many other things in Orlando that you will want to see. Al told me to tell yous you oughta try his joint Capone’s Dinner & Show visit us at www.alcapones.com. Best wishes for a Christmas memory you will always treasure!
