Orlando offers so much more than just a great place to play a football bowl game. Yet this time of the year, it’s hard to think of anything BUT football (if you are a sports fan, that is). Florida is sending a few of our favorite teams to bowl games, and we are especially proud of our very own University of Central Florida Knights, who are headed to the BCS bowl game in Arizona! Congratulations!

Fiesta Bowl

The UCF Knights will face off against the Baylor Bears on January 1 at the 43rd Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. The Knights along with Baylor, Auburn and Michigan State were four programs who went unranked in the preseason poll but will play in a BCS bowl game this year. Many are describing this particular bowl game as “Thrilling Plays – Unexpected Champions.” Whether it was expected or not, it should be a thrilling game, and we wish the UCF Knights the best and hope they bring home the winning trophy!

Russell Athletic Bowl Capital One Bowl

While many students, alumni and fans will be headed to Arizona or the Rose Bowl where Florida State University will be playing, others will be flocking into the Orlando area to watch the Russell Athletic Bowl and the Capital One Bowl. Both of these football contests are held in downtown Orlando at the Citrus Bowl Stadium. This year’s bowl games host Miami Hurricanes and Louisville Cardinals for the Russell Athletic Bowl on December 28th; and the Capital One Bowl will host the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Wisconsin Badgers on January 1st.

As if the Capital One Bowl game isn’t exciting enough, this year country music star Hunter Hayes will perform at the FanFest at 10:30 a.m. Hunter Hayes, is a multi-talented performer, musician, producer, and writer who has multiple Grammy nominations. His concerts are selling out all over the United States and Canada. You would think tickets would be expensive, but tickets for the Capital One Bowl game start as low as $35. Add another $35 for a VIP pass, and you’ll have access to the reserved area closer to the stage for this Orlando concert!

These bowl games combined with New Years Eve and the Citrus Bowl Parade (held on Monday, Dec. 30) in downtown Orlando will ensure this area is going to be full of activity. Hotels are filling up fast, and area businesses are expecting to do very well with all of the visitors these sporting events bring. Many fans will incorporate their trip with tickets to the Orlando theme parks and evening dinner shows such as Capone’s Dinner & Show. With the increase of visitors to the Orlando area, we all win!
