With temperatures plunging (a little) here in Central Florida, I wanted to take this opportunity to tell everyone about another Plunge taking place in a few weeks. No, I’m not forecasting the weather. I’m talking about the Polar Plunge happening Saturday, January 21, 2012 beginning at 9:00am. It is a very cool event!
It’s a Plunge into cold water to raise money for Special Olympics Florida. Taking place at Aquatica, which is usually warm and tropical, this event requires the Orlando theme park to ice down their wave pool (one day only) so you can experience the “thrill of the chill” while supporting a great cause! It is one of the most popular and successful Special Olympics fundraising events in the nation.
Plungers must be at least 15 years old to participate. You must raise or donate a minimum of $100. Just ask your friends, family, and peers to sponsor you. The more money you raise, the greater the incentive rewards. Some of the rewards are pretty good too, including annual park passes! Everyone that signs up gets some cool stuff, plus you get to spend the day at Aquatica.
If you have enough crazy friends or coworkers, you can put together a Plunge Team. Get at least 6 people to commit to raising the money and you might win a prize for your team size, the money you raise or your costumes! This could be a lot of fun, if you like it cold.
If you just can’t take the icy water, but want to participate, you can be a Virtual Plunger and raise pledges to receive incentives just like the Plungers. You won’t even have to put a toe into the icy water. Just like the Plungers, you’ll need to raise a minimum of $100 to attend the event at Aquatica.
If you’d like to sign up, go to the Special Olympics Florida website and sign up. You can create your own personal fundraising page and use their fundraising toolkit to get you started. Then all you’ll need to do is get the pledges and warm up before the big cool down.
