The 68th Annual Osceola County Fair begins Friday, February 10 and continues daily through February 19, 2012. The theme for this year is “Something for Everyone,” and they are right about that! This is one of the best fairs in the State of Florida. You won’t want to miss it.

It starts with a BANG as the first-ever Demolition Derby comes to the Fair Friday, February 10 at 7:00 p.m. Admission is only $5 (after you’ve paid to enter the fair grounds). Watch as competitors deliberately smash and crash into one another. It is a lot of fun.

After the Derby, or on any other day or night of the 10-day Fair, enjoy Midway Rides, great food, fair exhibits, contests and much, much more. The full schedule can be found on their website. Strates Shows provides the rides and a thrilling new ride this year is the Sky Flyer. The 98 foot high Sky Flyer vertical swing “Dances in the sky” as it twirls 24 riders from 12 double seats more than 50 feet in the air.  Height requirement is 48” minimum and 79” maximum.  The Sky Flyer offers adventure as well as a panoramic view of the midway.  If the traditional Ferris Wheel isn’t exciting enough, you’ll definitely want to check out the Sky Flyer.

Goat Show at the FairBeing an agricultural area, the Osceola County Fair also features hog shows, cattle showmanship, goat, rabbit, poultry, lamb shows and more. The area’s 4-H and FFA organizations make strong showings at this fair, as well as many local premier exhibitors in a host of arts and craft categories. You’ll enjoy browsing the displays in the exhibition hall and attending one of the many livestock shows. You can even bid on a market lamb or steer, filling your freezer with fine cuts of meat and helping out a youngster financially. There are also shows open to the public including pet shows, baby shows, a pie eating contest and others. There really is something for everyone!

Giraffe at the Petting ZooDaily entertainment at this year’s fair features everything from clowns to high-wire acts. There is a ventriloquist show, lion/tiger tamer act, firefighter show, chainsaw artists in action and an educational agriculture show that kids of all ages are sure to enjoy. Your child can ride a horse (Heavenly Hoofs) as well as pet some zoo animals, including a 15-month-old baby giraffe!

Live music and performances this year feature local talent with shows every day or evening of the Fair. The cost of admission to the Fair is only $5 for adults, $3 for children (5-11) and seniors. The Fair opens Monday-Thursday at 5:00 p.m. and on Friday, Saturday & Sunday, it opens at noon. If you act fast, tickets can be purchased at Walgreens (only through Friday, Feb. 10) at a discount.
