New Restaurant to Open at CityWalk: NBC Sports Grill & Brew

drawing of new NBC Sports Grill & Brew

The NBC Sports network will open their first-ever new restaurant, NBC Sports Grill & Brew, this Fall at Universal Orlando’s CityWalk. When the NASCAR Grille closed, we knew something special would take its place, and boy is it going to be special! It will definitely appeal to not only NASCAR fans but fans of all sports (shown on NBC of course).

The new restaurant will be one of the largest sport-driven restaurants around! NBC Sports Grill & Brew will feature 90 big-screen televisions. Even people walking by will enjoy the huge screens located on the exterior of the building. A massive high definition stadium screen (more than 100-feet wide) will tower over guests as they enter the restaurant. There won’t be a seat in the house that cannot enjoy the sports on screen.

Do you like beer? There will be 100 different beers to choose from. The new theme park restaurant will also have an outdoor beer garden. What a great atmosphere for football season! Even NBC Sports anchors Liam McHugh, Mike Milbury and Keith Jones think so. Check out this video featuring the sports personalities:

An open kitchen will be located inside where you can watch chefs prepare your meal. Custom open fire grills will cook up your burgers and steaks. Other not so ordinary dishes, such as crab scotch eggs, will be on the menu. More information about the food, menu and entree prices will be announced as the opening gets nearer this Fall.

New Theme Park Restaurants at CityWalk

With so many new restaurants opening at CityWalk there is definitely something for every taste and budget. This new restaurant will fit in nicely. If you haven’t been to CityWalk lately, here is a list of newly opened or remodeled places to eat:

Many standby favorites that remain at CityWalk include:

  • Emeril’s® Restaurant Orlando
  • Jimmy Buffett’s® Margaritaville®
  • Bob Marley–A Tribute to Freedom
  • Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.™ Restaurant & Market
  • Pat O’Brien’s®

Dinner Show Attraction

If you are looking for a quick bite after leaving the theme parks, a romantic dinner for two, a late night snack or taking the family out for a feast, you’re sure to find a restaurant at CityWalk for that occasion. This Fall you’ll have yet another choice – perfect for you if you are a sports fanatic. If you are looking to sit and relax at a dinner and show, Capone’s Dinner & Show is just down the road located at 4740 W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Parkway (Highway 192) in Kissimmee, FL 34746. Only a 1/2 mile east of the S.R. 535 and 192 intersection.

Even Al and the mobsters at Capone’s like to swing a bat every now and then. Baseball season will be over by the time the NBC Sports Grill & Brew opens, but there will be plenty more action to look forward to. Speaking of action, until the new theme park restaurant is open, bring your team on into Al’s joint and catch a “bullet” during the action-packed gangster shoot out. No baseball glove required. It’s a blast!

Lake Buena Vista Dinner Options Coming in 2015

Just up the road from Capone’s Dinner & Show is Lake Buena Vista where Disney Springs will be located. As was the Village Marketplace, Pleasure Island, West Side – or whatever name you know it as, the new Disney Springs will be a great area to dine at. You may, however, have a difficult time choosing which restaurant to go to!

The multimillion-dollar redevelopment project will include about 150 venues and 2 parking garages (with 6,000 spaces). It began construction in early 2013 and is projected to be complete in 2016. However, as phases are being completed, several venues and restaurants will be opening this year.

Morimoto Asia

If you have watched “Iron Chef” on television, you’ll want to check out Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s first pan-Asian dining experience. This Lake Buena Vista restaurant will feature a two-story glass entrance, Asian calligraphy facades, terraces, a grand hall, private rooms, cocktail lounge and outdoor dining areas offering a great view of Disney Springs as it comes to life in phases. It is expected to be open in the summer of this year (2015).

The Boathouse Waterfront

The Boathouse

Cedar Plank SalmonIn April 2015, the much anticipated restaurant opening of “The Boathouse” is expected. The menu from Gibson’s Steakhouse will include steaks, chops and seafood. It will have three bars, including two that stick out over the water! The Captain’s Raw Bar and the Dock Bar are sure to be late-night hot spots. With live music and all of the boats coming and going, this is going to be great for Disney Guests.

Much like Capone’s, this location will be considered an attraction as well as a restaurant. The upscale Disney dining experience will feature 28 dream boats from the ‘30s, ‘40s and ‘50s. There will also be Amphicar tours of Disney Springs! Imagine a car driving on land and cruising through the water… Oh yeah, these were made from 1962 to 1967 – but this will be the first opportunity many people will be able to see and ride in them. What a great experience!

The water aspect of Disney Springs also includes plans for a 40-foot wooden Italian Water Taxi. Enjoy champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries during this tour. If you enjoy daily bugle calls and flag ceremonies, a steamboat harbor master will be conducting them throughout the day as well. Like any good Orlando attraction, a gift shop will carry custom paddles, photography, boat crew costume attire and other souvenirs.

STK Orlando

Just recently another restaurant was announced for arrival in Disney Springs in 2015. STK Orlando is a modern steakhouse which will feature a 14,000-foot dining space with two dining floors and a rooftop dining venue! With a lounge and DJ, this could also draw a late-night crowd. More details about this new Orlando restaurant are sure to follow.

Until these new restaurants open, come see a Kissimmee dinner show near Lake Buena Vista – Capone’s Dinner & Show. Open for over 20 years, this popular dinner attraction offers something for everyone. A large Italian buffet, plenty of action during the show and at a discounted attraction ticket price.

New Museum Coming to Orlando’s Tourist Area

There are numerous museums in Central Florida. Some are within a short driving distance from the attractions making it fairly easy to visit during a family vacation. However, next spring a new museum is coming to Orlando right in the heart of the tourist corridor.

Skeletons: A Museum of Osteology  will open at the I-Drive 360 complex next spring. This attraction will feature animal and human skeletons. Taking up 7,750 square feet of space, that is a lot of bones! In fact, more than 300 sets of bones will be displayed in dioramas and interactive exhibits.

The museum owner (Jay Villemarette) already has an osteology museum located in Oklahoma City as well as a specimen business, Skulls Unlimited International Inc.  The skeletons in the Oklahoma museum are arranged in scientific poses. Son and marketing director, Josh Villemarette, wants to set up the Orlando museum to reflect more of an entertaining, family-fun attraction, so there will be more action poses. There will also feature interactive exhibits in which guests will be allowed to touch the skeletons.

The new museum will have about eight human skeletons with the rest being made up of various birds, mammels and other animals. Various zoos often provide the animal skeletons in hopes of educating guests about the animals they help protect and care for. As for the human skeletons… any volunteers? They do accept specimens as donations!

Skeletons: A Museum of Osteology is expected to be about an hour and a half walk-through experience. Tickets will be sold at $19.99 for adults and $12.99 for ages 4 to 11. It will be open every day, year round.

Another museum, Madame Tussauds Wax Museum is also expected to be housed in the I-Drive 360 complex. The site also has plans for a Sea Life aquarium, numerous shops and restaurants. Some are already open for business. With the Orlando Eye (a 400-foot tall observation wheel) expected to open in 2015 and the Skyplex in 2016, this new attraction area is really starting to shape up, up, up! No bones about it.

New Attraction Coming to Orlando: Crayola Experience

Crayola Experience

As if the Florida Mall isn’t a great place to shop in Orlando already, next summer it will be even better! Not only will you be able to shop within the mall, you’ll also be able to experience crayons like never before! A new attraction called the Crayola Experience will feature 25 hands-on activities.

This colorful family-friendly attraction will cause you to rethink the crayon. Remember your first box of 64? Oh, have they come a long way from that! At this new attraction you’ll be able to:

  • name and wrap an authentic Crayola crayon
  • star in your very own coloring page
  • create wearable art featuring your family
  • scribble on a chalk floor with chalk (what kid wouldn’t want to do this?)
  • play within a play area as colorful as, well, a box of crayons
  • doodle on an interactive screen
  • interact with animated crayons that mirror your every move
  • create spin and drip art
  • melt and mold crayons into other shapes
  • see how crayons are made
  • create your own hand-drawn puzzle
  • choose from hundreds of unique Crayola products and souvenirs
  • grab a bite to eat and recharge
  • and of course, color to your heart’s content

Currently, the Crayola Experience is only located in Easton, PA, near where the original Crayola factory is located. The 111-year-old company has over 1,500 proprietary products and technologies and employs over 1,300 people. As children change the way they play, so has this company’s ability to evolve. The Crayola Experience is a way to continue to share in the creation of colorful memories.

Opening dates for this new attraction in Orlando have not been released, nor has the cost to experience it. See our newer post for opening information and ticket costs. The Pennsylvania location charges an online price of $15.99. Senior admission and group tickets are also available. The attraction also offers events, group parties and facility rentals. Look for Orlando’s location to be similar. For more information, visit their website crayolaexperience.com.

The Florida Mall is a great location for this new attraction. Many families and tourist are familiar with it and the many shopping opportunities it provides. This new attraction would supply guests with at least a half day’s worth of fun activities, leaving just enough time to find some bargains while shopping in the mall. Next summer’s looking bright (and colorful)!

Diagon Alley Set to Officially Open July 8

All eyes are on Universal Studios these days. With the announcement that Diagon Alley would be open to the public July 8, 2014, the media are being allowed limited access to help promote the Orlando theme park’s new attraction. Reports are, that not everything is complete, but close. On top of this opening announcement, the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon has been broadcasting from Universal this week. A lot of movie stars are being spotted and numerous special activities are going on.

Grand Opening of Diagon Alley

Diagon Alley

Everyone has a good view of the fire-breathing dragon atop Gringotts Bank, and it is impressive. As expected, the interior is impressive as well. The rides are being tested and at this point no delays are expected. The shops, and there are a lot of shops, appear to be ready for business. Going to Diagon Alley in the movies was all about shopping, and in real life, at least here at Universal Studios, it is the same.

Shops include:

  • Leaky Cauldron™
  • Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlour
  • Ollivanders™
  • PWeasleys’ Wizard Wheezes
  • Borgin and Burkes
  • Magical Menagerie™
  • Madam Malkin’s Robes for all Occasions
  • Wiseacre’s Wizarding Equipment
  • Quality Quidditch™ Supplies

Magical Wands & More

Wave the wand and be a part of the magic. The new interactive wands being sold (for about $35) in Diagon Alley are a hit. Various locations within the Orlando theme park allow wand holders to create a little magic by waving their wand and reciting some magical words. This will be a lot of fun for children and adults.

The ride on Hogwarts Express has been reviewed by the actors in the movies. They say the scenery is remarkably like a view you’d have on a train in England. Journey between the theme parks and enjoy full access to all that Universal Studios has to offer. You may not believe you’re in Orlando any longer!

Soft openings of this new attraction could be held at any time. If you are an annual passholder, you could attend the theme park every day and have a change to be one of the first to ride the new Escape from Gringotts ride.  This breathtaking, mind-blowing, new, 3D multi-dimensional ride is definitely going to be memorable!

Now that the opening date has been announced, will you go to Diagon Alley right away?  Let us know when you expect to experience this new attraction by leaving a comment here on Al’s blog. As for this Muggle, I’ll wait until the crowds die down.
